Midland Pallet Trucks urges businesses to avoid rental trucks this festive season

The festive season is just around the corner, and many companies will have already started to feel the increase in sales as eager shoppers look to scout out early gifts in order to beat the rush.

Despite it being tempting for businesses to essentially take the simple route when work becomes unmanageable and look at renting equipment to help workforces cope, one of the country’s leading experts in manual handling solutions for businesses has urged to instead invest in equipment they will use time and time again.

Midland Pallet Trucks has been at the forefront of the industry for many years, supplying equipment such as hand pallet trucks, high lift pallet trucks, and lift platforms to a number of sectors. The company is therefore well-placed having seen fluctuations in the marketplace as well as noted first-hand the issues companies have faced over the last three decades. And not thoroughly thinking about investment is one of the worst mistakes businesses can make, according to the expert.

Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Midland Pallet Trucks, says, “When orders increase and workload starts to look almost unmanageable, it can be all too tempting for companies to simply hire in equipment, such as pallet trucks, in order to cover short-term demand. Although this may seem like the best idea on the surface, it does have a number of disadvantages for both workplaces and the employees who use this equipment day to day. “There is always the risk that they could represent poor value-for-money should they not be sturdy. This could put employees at an increased risk from accidents while also slowing down production should they break. If businesses look to be struggling with increased demand from customers, it’s widely advised they expand their fleet permanently by adding robust equipment that will stand the test of time but not break the bank.” Rental trucks are often thought of as a cheaper option, but the contrary can actually be true. Charges can be expensive when hiring them for a number of weeks or months, while there is also the risk they will come with false histories or missing paperwork if the company is not authorised. And the last thing a business needs during the busy festive period is for equipment to break down or cause injury.

Investing in a low-cost but robust pallet truck, such as the DBA25A 2500kg Hand Pallet Truck, which will cost a business just £189.60 including VAT, is a much more cost-effective route and will also put managers’ minds at rest that money is spent wisely and the equipment will last for many years. This Truck is euro-compatible meaning it can be used with euro pallets, while the hydraulic pump requires very little maintenance, resulting in a wholly economical investment.

Phil, adds, “The Christmas shopping period – both before and after the festivities is often the busiest time of the year for retailers. But by essentially taking the easy way out, business could not only be essentially throwing money down the drain, but also increase costs going forward due to potential staff absences as a result of accidents.”
