Leading pallet truck supplier excited by Amazon Fresh launch this month

With online grocery shopping booming, it was only a matter of time before Amazon brought its fresh food delivery service, Amazon Fresh, to the UK. Having been trading in the United States for seven years, Midland Pallet Trucks, one of the UK’s leading providers of pallet and pump trucks, has welcomed the news, signalling it as a marker in the online industry shopping as a whole. According to sources, ecommerce giant, Amazon, may be preparing to launch its eagerly awaited fresh food delivery service Amazon Fresh in the UK this month. Having trialled the service around its east London depot for the past couple of months, reports suggest that its suppliers have reportedly been told to begin deliveries in the next few weeks. In fact one supplier, Bol, has allegedly told the Grocer that it would begin selling its salad bowls on Amazon Fresh on 18 May. Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Midland Pallet Trucks said, “Consumers have long been waiting for Amazon to bring their Amazon Fresh offering to the UK, and the news that it may be coming this month is great for the industry. Online grocery shopping is at an all-time high, and by capitalising on their dominance in other areas, it only makes sense for Amazon to make the leap to food deliveries. A significant development in the online sales industry, the move will change the face of online shopping forever, pushing other retailers to up their game and become a one-stop shop for all consumers’ needs.” This news comes hot on the heels of the Amazon Pantry service, which was launched in the UK last year, as well as the September debut of its foray into frozen food via its Prime Now one-hour delivery service. Putting it in direct competition with the likes of Ocado and Sainsbury’s, which is expected to greatly expand its online offering, following its successful acquisition of Argos, Amazon look set to shake up the UK online marketplace for good.
